Room
for One
More Before you apply to adopt a dog,
please read and understand the following.
Every year RFOM rescues
hundreds of animals from high kill shelters up
and down the east coast as well as in the local
tri-state area. (We do NOT buy puppies from puppy
mills and pass them off as rescue dogs, we find
that repulsive) We wish we could save them all
but the truth is we can't. Every animal that is
taken into our facility is given their
vaccinations, altered, and treated for all known
illnesses that arise while in our care. This
ranges from parasites to broken bones, skin
conditions, heartworm, colds, and respiratory
infections. This is financially taxing on the
rescue, which costs over 8000.00 a month to keep
the doors open. Once an adoption is processed the
pet becomes the owners responsibility. This
includes continued treatment for any issues that
we already knew about and informed the adopter of
as well as anything that might arise in the pets
life from then on. We are not breeders, we are
not a pet store. We are volunteers, saving lives.
Our adopters are saving lives as well by choosing
to adopt a shelter pet. Adopting an animal is a
big responsibility and it is important to be
aware that pets, like people, need continued
care, vaccines, worm treatment, flea treatments,
and treatment for any illnesses that arise during
the pet's lifetime as well as training,
especially in the case of puppies. Dogs can live
long lives and we ask that adopters are prepared
for whatever might come up.
