Our animal rescue does not get any funding from the state, the town, or the government so everything is paid for with Adoption fees and fundraisers. Dogs and cats can cost a good deal of money to maintain but also some of the dogs that we take in are victims of neglect or abuse and we take them to the vet for medications, treatments and surgery. We have had dogs with broken legs, dogs with buckshot all through their bodies, emaciated dogs, dogs with mange, dogs with seizures and dogs with broken hearts. They come straggling into the refugee camp and we work very hard to comfort and care for each and every one. An adoption fee for each animal does not cover their own vetting let alone maintainence if they are here for several months before getting a home but it does help defray some of the costs.

We have and electric bill, a phone bill and a trash removal bill each month. We also have rent to house these dogs and cats which runs us about 2300.00 a month. There is the never ending vetting costs to spay/neuter cats and dogs that are surrendered because their owners never did it, or cats that are feral and need to be sterilized before being re-released into the wild. Every dog we pull from a high kill shelter from out of state -must- have a rabies shot before crossing state lines. RFOM also gets those dogs altered, and up to date on all their vaccines as well as HW tested prior to coming to our rescue. This costs money as well but it helps get the animals adoptable faster and hopefully into a new home more efficiently.

Your adoption fees are actually not used for the dog or cat you just adopted. It is for the dogs and cats left behind that still need us to care for them. This is why our adoption fees are not based on each dog or on how much vetting we put into each dog. One dog cost us several thousand dollars to repair the damage of neglect. His adoption fee was the same as the dog that cost us less.
